These terms describe how RxMonitor actually works and what it does not claim. They have not been reviewed by a lawyer, and they must be before launch.
Two clauses are deliberately unfilled because guessing at them would be worse than leaving them open: the operating entity and the governing law and forum.
What RxMonitor is
A reference for medications authorised for sale in Canada, built from public data published by Health Canada and the Ontario Ministry of Health. It reports what those sources say, with the date they said it, and links the official record for every claim.
It is not medical advice
Nothing on this site is medical advice, and nothing here should be used to make a decision about taking, changing or stopping a medication. RxMonitor does not say what to take, whether a medication is suitable for anyone, what dose to use, or what a medication treats. It has no way to know anything about your health, and it is not a substitute for a pharmacist, a physician, or the product monograph.
If you think you are having a reaction to a medication, contact a health professional. In an emergency, call 911.
The limits of what is shown
These are the same limits stated on the pages themselves.
- An absent recall is not evidence of safety. Health Canada’s recalls data carries no drug identification number, so notices are matched on wording alone and a substantial share cannot be matched to any product at all. How the matching works, and how often it fails.
- Coverage information is Ontario only, and not being on Ontario’s formulary is not the same as not being covered — private, workplace, federal and other provincial plans are all outside what this site holds.
- The Ontario figure is not a price. It is what the province reimburses a pharmacy per unit; deductibles and co-payments sit on top of it.
- Sharing an active ingredient does not mean two products are interchangeable. Substitution is a provincial decision.
- Reported side effects are not shown at all, deliberately. A count of voluntary reports is not a rate, and the most-reported term for a medication is frequently the condition it is prescribed for.
- The data has a date. Every page states when it was retrieved. Health Canada and Ontario both change their records between our updates.
No warranty
RxMonitor is provided as it is, without warranty of any kind. We take real care that every figure matches its source — the site is built so that claims are checked against the published record rather than asserted — but we do not warrant that the information is complete, current, or free of error, and we are not liable for decisions made on the basis of it.
Independence
RxMonitor is an independent service. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by Health Canada, the Government of Canada, or the Ontario Ministry of Health. It contains information licensed under the Open Government Licence – Canada and the Open Government Licence – Ontario 1.0.
We accept no advertising from pharmaceutical manufacturers, and no commercial partner influences what safety, recall or coverage information is shown, or in what order.
Accounts and alerts
An account is optional; everything on the site is readable without one. Its only function is to email you when the public record for a medication you watch changes.
Not receiving an email is not an assurance that nothing has happened. Alerts depend on the same imperfect matching described above, and on our updates running when they should. They are a convenience, not a safety system, and must not be relied on as one.
You can stop alerts, or delete everything we hold about you, at any time — see the privacy policy.
Acceptable use
The underlying data is open and licensed for reuse; take it from Health Canada and Ontario directly, where it is authoritative and current. Please do not scrape this site at a rate that degrades it for other readers, and do not present its content in a way that implies Health Canada, Ontario or RxMonitor endorses your use of it.
Changes
The date at the top changes when these terms do.
